New Cover in Neuron in Collaboration with Mohamad El Amki and Susanne Wegener

1 May 2024

On the cover of Neuron: We reveal the paramount role of leptomeningeal collaterals in maintaining the vascular function and regulating reperfusion in the brain after ischemic stroke. In this artwork, industrial pipelines allude to blood vessels in the brain. The center pipeline represents a leptomeningeal collateral with faucets from the two sides allowing an emergency route for additional supply in major pipes. In case of supply shortage or an imploded pipeline (hinting to vascular damage by stroke), collaterals maintain the pipeline function, thus preventing failure of the whole system.
