How do anaesthetics change the brain’s vasculature? We are setting up a new high-pressure freezing protocol that lets us rapidly freeze brain tissue and preserve it close to its living state. With it, we will compare how different anaesthetics affect the blood-brain barrier and the nanoscale anatomy around cortical capillaries.

Your project

• Acquire serial images on the electron microscope (SEM)

• Segment structures of interest and build 3D reconstructions

• Quantify morphological parameters and analyse the data statistically

We offer

• A project at the start of a new method, with real ownership

• Hands-on training in advanced EM and 3D image analysis

• A supportive, interdisciplinary team

You bring

• enthusiasm for anatomy and details, motivation to learn new techniques

• A Master’s program in neuroscience, biology, biomedical sciences or a related field

• Interest in imaging and quantitative analysis (experience with Python, image segmentation, Fiji/ImageJ is not a must, but helpful. Interest in learning these computational techniques is a must)

Duration: 6-12 months
